Grilled Crab Cakes at Crabs!

The past weekend, Chris and I went to Crabs! on Pensacola Beach. To say that the name of the restaurant causes a few jokes to be made is an understatement. In fact, at the end of the night, I said, “at least we had Crabs,” to which Chris said, “yeah, but not the right kind.” I didn’t ask exactly what he meant.

Anyway, the restaurant itself is on the beach overlooking the Gulf. It’s like many beachfront restaurants: sandy, smells of saltwater, and looks a little dirty. The prices are not like many beachfront restaurants, at least none that I’ve seen. My crab cakes were nearly $20, and they were one of the cheaper items on the menu.

The meal came with three grilled crab cakes (the choice was grilled or flash fried), potatoes, and corn on the cob. I wasn’t too impressed with the cakes, especially when compared with the price. They were good, but not good enough to be nearly $20. They were lacking in the flavor and seasoning areas which made them a little bland. I probably would be more accepting if they were cheaper.
